Pieces of Me in 2007

Sometimes we meet another person whose medium of creative expression compliments ours in such a way as to draw out something that is completely unexpected. For a collaborator, this is probably the ultimate gift of a team effort - that for a moment you may inhabit the view of your partner, acquiring some of their vision which you so admired, that independent of such you may not have the technique or ability needed for execution. This series of work is the result of the creative dialogue that organically transpired between myself, painter, and my friend Justin, musician. Unfortunately without the music to guide us through the visual experience, one is left to their own devices. Will you employ the assistance of a cartographer or will you allow yourself to travel through the fields and layers (and perhaps stories) unrestrained?

Pieces of Me in 2006

This most recent series of work uses abstraction to represent concepts such as movement, abandon, consciousness (and oblivion), conception, obscurity and cycles. I spend many hours with each piece, drawing mostly from intuition while maintaining an awareness of the dynamic relationship I am intending to facilitate between the painting and the viewer. Applying layers is a fundamental component of each creation for it mimics the dimension of existence. The synthesis of beeswax and paint begs for a more intense study of the stratum. “That’s it”, she says. “Come closer”.
